Student Spotlight: Startup Awards Contest Winners Kyle and David

What is your education/work background?
I have a B.A in Philosophy and my work background has almost always revolved around sales in some sense. My current position is Enterprise Development at Hootsuite.

What is the best part of your job?
Best part of the job: Getting to understand an organizations goals and then showing them just how powerful social media can be to help them connect with their customers.

How will you apply your newfound digital skills to your personal and professional life?
Professionally, being able to diversify my skill set is incredibly valuable. I strive to be a well rounded employee and being involved in the tech sector the ability to “wear many hats” is a valuable skill to have. Personally, anytime my friends and beers are involved the ideas start flowing, and being able to bring technical skills to a group of “idea men” might finally help us solidify some of those ideas.

What is your go-to blog or website?
I partake in very diverse literature online; and by diverse i mean I spend 96% of my online time surfing Reddit.

Do you have a favourite app? If so, share it with us.
I just started using an app called Sales Prodigy that I’ve been obsessed with lately. It’s focused on social selling and helping me understand how I can build better relationships with my prospects.

Meet David Kyle
Launch Specialist at Hootsuite and future UX Designer of the Techvibes Startup Awards Website

Student Spotlight: Startup Awards Contest Winners Kyle and David

What is your education/work background?
I have a degree in Political Science and Law and Society from UBC. After I graduated I took classes at BCIT for Broadcast Journalism because I believe it’s important that people have access to information to make informed decisions for themselves. When I realized the TV Journalism may not be the most widely used medium in the future that people use to gather information, I got a job at Hootsuite.

What is the best part of your job?
Working with different companies from all over the world and helping them achieve their marketing goals by using our tool. No project is ever the same – I’m always tackling new problems which keeps me on my toes.

How will you apply your newfound digital skills to your personal and professional life?
A personal goal of mine for the year is to understand Google Analytics. Once I do that, the combination of designing websites for great User Experience with an understanding of the analytics of those websites will be highly valuable for building my own websites and for companies.

What is your go-to blog or website?
I pretty much find everything I read from Twitter. If a tweet or headline catches my eye, I go to the link and spend time peeking around the website. It’s a great way to always be finding new websites, writers and articles.

If you had to choose, what would be your favourite app?
Instagram. It’s clean, simple, intuitive and completely personal.
