Meet Ariane Lapointe-Auger, a Digital Marketing student joining us in Vancouver this Fall to learn how to improve her social media skills and help build Quantum Coffee’s brand. Get inspired by her story and learn how she plans on using the course learnings to accelerate in her career.
What is your education and career background? Your current role?
Being from Quebec, I have a CEGEP degree in Graphic Design. I graduated in 2013 and since then I have worked freelance for small businesses while traveling. Simultaneously, I started working in local coffee shops and I fell in love with the craft. Since moving to Vancouver, I have worked at two different coffee companies and I also got the chance to work in the marketing department for the Vancouver Fringe Festival. This opportunity showed me where my marketing skills stand and what I liked about the profession. After my contract with the Fringe ended, I got hired by Quantum Coffee to open and help managed their Vancouver location. This is my current project.
What course are you enrolled in for this cohort and what made you decide to take it?
While working for the Vancouver Fringe Festival I felt my skills were not as good as they could have been when it came to managing social media and creating marketing strategies. I decided to enroll in the Digital Marketing course so I can be better at my job. While I was studying Graphic Design, the digital aspect of marketing was not fully covered and I felt like the BrainStation course was a great opportunity for me to improve those skills.
How did you hear about the program?
I am currently working on opening the Vancouver location for Quantum Coffee, which is BrainStation’s sister company. While I was working in BrainStation’s offices I got to see a lot of students taking classes and it made me realize that I could do the same and improve my digital skills.
What are you most excited to learn?
I am excited to learn how to develop a marketing strategy to position a brand digitally. I am also looking forward to learning about search engine optimization. My only knowledge comes from research I did online so I am excited to learn from people in the industry. Finally, I also look forward to gathering the data from marketing campaigns, analyzing them and then learning what adjustment to make to get better results.
If you had to pick a favourite tech company doing awesome things – who would it be and why?
I would not say they are my favorite company and I don’t agree with everything they do, but I do look up to Apple for creating products that feel magical.
I actually admire a Spanish shoe company that does awesome things, Camper shoes. Their digital campaigns are so creative and innovative, they are willing to be provocative to a point where you don’t see other brands go. They also experiment a lot and are not afraid of failure which are two things I look up to. When I think of a company that does digital marketing well, I think of them.
How do you plan on applying your newfound skills, personally and/or professionally?
I would love to help friends’ businesses build marketing strategies and grow their presence on social media. On top of that, this course is a great addition to my degree and will make me more qualified as a designer. Finally, it will help me contribute to Quantum Coffee’s presence on social media.
