What is your education and career background? Your current role?
I graduated from McGill University with a BA in International Development and Communications. However, I soon came to realize that my passion was in nutrition, and so I enrolled at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, where I received my Nutritionist certification. I currently work for Nutbar, a superfood snack cafe that has just opened in Summerhill. As an intern I was involved in content development, menu testing, and various communication and social media tasks.
What course are you enrolled in for this cohort and what made you decide to take it?
I am enrolled in the Digital Marketing course. I decided to take it because I am genuinely interested in the subject matter, and see how important digital marketing is for my work, as well as for the growth of my personal food blog.
How did you hear about the program?
I inquired about it as I was enjoying a cup of coffee at Quantum.
What are you most excited to learn?
It’s hard to say, because every unit seems very exciting to me! I guess what I’m most excited about is being able to learn from industry experts and gaining ‘hands on’ experience.
If you had to pick a favourite tech company doing awesome things – who would it be and why?
Loblaw Digital is definitely one of my favourites – their product development and variety has been astonishing and I’m always impressed at how their digital channels are operating. Working for Loblaw Digital is definitely in my ‘dream job’ list.
Favourite spot to spend an afternoon in the city?
I’m new to Toronto, but I love trying new coffee shops and restaurants. My next reservation is for Mamakas on Ossington!
How do you plan on applying your newfound skills, personally and/or professionally?
I plan on applying it to my current work; with Nutbar is being a new business, it’s important to create an online presence in an effective and innovative way. I also plan on applying it to the growth of my personal blog & brand, and keep my eyes open for future opportunities in the field.
