What is your education and career background? Your current role?
I first attended the University of Toronto where I graduated with an HBA in Geography. After graduation, I enrolled in a Human Resources Management post-graduate program at Humber College. Near the end of my post-grad I landed an internship at a digital marketing and design agency in Toronto working in HR. My internship turned into full-time employment and nearly two years later I currently still work at the same agency.
What course are you enrolled in for this cohort and what made you decide to take it?
I’m enrolled in Digital Marketing at BrainStation. Working in HR at a digital marketing agency, I’d like gain a solid understanding of the core fundamentals of digital marketing in relation to what the company I work for does day in and day out. A more hands on experience with a solid foundation will enhance my day-to-day role, and possibly open up more doors employment-wise down the road.
How did you hear about the program?
A close friend of mine took the course and had really positive things to say about it. I expressed my interest in it and here I am!
What are you most excited to learn?
Anything and everything at this point. Having been out of school for almost two years, I’m looking forward to being back in a classroom environment that offers hands-on experience with local Toronto brands.
If you had to pick a favourite tech company doing awesome things – who would it be and why?
You can fight me that it’s not a tech company but I’m going with Tesla and their relentless effort to change the automotive industry by redefining the position of fuel alternative cars with innovation and technology. I grew up with a fond interest in cars and motorcycles so the advancement Tesla brings to the automotive and technology game is always an intriguing one for me.
Favourite spot to spend an afternoon in the city?
The island on a hot summer day. Beach, beers and a bicycle!
How do you plan on applying your newfound skills, personally and/or professionally?
I will definitely be taking my skills back to the office in order to grasp a thorough understanding of what our employees of various disciplines do on a daily to contribute to a greater goal. I am also hoping to explore some alternative career paths using the skills I acquire in the course!
