Get to know Margot Kenny, who is joining us for our Winter 2017 Digital Marketing course in Toronto. Learn why she decided to take the course and what she hopes to accomplish in 10 weeks.
What is your education and career background? Your current role?
I just completed a B.Comm at Ryerson University majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management. While I was in school I bartended at Jacob’s Steakhouse and the Shangri-La. Currently I am an instructor at Spokehaus, a boutique spin studio in Toronto. My current focus is jump starting my career in sales at a forward looking tech company.
What course are you enrolled in for this cohort and what made you decide to take it?
I am enrolled in Digital Marketing. I took some marketing courses at Ryerson, however the digital aspect was not a focus. I believe taking advantage of learning opportunities in the digital realm will help me with both my personal and professional growth. Learning about the digital product lifecycle is all the more important in a world in which “all businesses are tech businesses”.
How did you hear about the program?
I heard about the program through friends who have taken courses at BrainStation and who work with the company.
What are you most excited to learn?
I am very excited about the final project which is to create a digital marketing plan for a Toronto based company. I am eager to put what we are learning into practice and see the potential success it can bring to this business. Secondly, I look forward to learning from and growing with such a diverse group of professionals.
If you had to pick a favourite tech company doing awesome things – who would it be and why?
I believe that League is an awesome company that is disrupting the insurance world. They are transforming something that has traditionally been boring and annoying into something customized and exciting. I am passionate about health and wellness and therefore believe in empowering individuals to take control over this aspect of their lives. League streamlines the health insurance process therefore making it easier for employers to keep their team happy and healthy.
Favourite spot to spend an afternoon in the city?
Trinity Bellwoods or the island.
How do you plan on applying your newfound skills, personally and/or professionally?
I am currently looking to jumpstart my career in tech and believe this course will give me the necessary skills to be a key contributor to the success of my next job.
