What is your education and career background? Your current role?
I have a Master’s in Industrial Engineering but my career has always been focused on tech. My first job was in a very big digital and innovation event, which was life-changing. Afterwards, a big part of my career has been in the telecom industry, as a Business Intelligence Consultant and a Project Manager. I have also been involved in some entrepreneurial projects.
What course are you enrolled in for this cohort and what made you decide to take it?
I am taking the Product Management course, and I am truly excited for it. I decided to take it to have a greater understanding of the creation process and the management of the lifecycle of a product. I plan on using what I learn in this course to help me towards my career goals.
How did you hear about the program?
I heard about it through a Meetup group. BrainStation was holding an orientational talk at their previous location in Yaletown. I joined it and fell in love with both the program and the centre. Great atmosphere!
What are you most excited to learn?
I am most excited for the big picture. I want to learn about how you put together an idea efficiently, in order to make it a reality. Taking an idea, learning from my peers, and applying the principles in order to turn that idea into a reality.
If you had to pick a favourite tech company doing awesome things – who would it be and why?
Airbnb, one of the pioneers of sharing economies. They have disrupted the marketplace, and not only for the accommodation industry. They have set a precedence, along with Zipcar, on how consumers have access to different goods and services, adding a human connection to it. Besides, their success story amazes me: how they turned a simple idea into such a great product by paying attention to the small details. I think Airbnb paid attention to the user experience better than most companies, and this was key to their success. If you haven’t read their story, I´d highly recommend it.
How do you plan on applying your newfound skills, personally and/or professionally?
I plan on working on creating beautiful products and functional solutions towards a more sustainable and romantic (in the broad sense) world.
