Meet upcoming BrainStation student Scott. He’ll be joining us this summer for our Intro to Web Development class in Vancouver. Read on to learn about Scott and his pretty amazing goals. If you’re a fan of sushi don’t miss his recommendation for the best sushi in Vancouver!
What educational/career path took you to where you are today?
I have a bachelor degree in Biological Chemistry from U of Guelph which did a great job at teaching me how to think (That’s my work around saying I don’t directly use that knowledge in my career). After graduating, I did a year abroad and started working at lululemon down under. Once coming back to Canada, I landed a job in the Vancouver stores which ultimately gave me the right exposure to score my current position at the head office working on the Mens Global Merchandising team.
What is the best part of your job?
My current role gives me the opportunity to be both creative and innovative. This tied together with the ability to travel and meet inspiring athletes who are up to some cool things. My hours are flexible allowing me to train for an ironman on the side.
Why did you choose to take a BrainStation course?
I learned about BrainStation through a free introductory workshop hosted at the lululemon office. This opened my eyes to the new age of learning and thinking. Web development is ever changing and I’m super excited to learn this new language and more importantly understand how to continually evolve to stay up to speed. I’ve always had an interest in web design and this course will allow me to learn at my own accord while keeping a full time job.
How do you see yourself applying the skills you’ll learn in class to your professional and personal life?
My 5 year goal is to start my own business. This course will give me the skills to create my own web site that will promote my services.
My short term goal is to build a personal athlete page that will help me land new sponsors.
What is your go-to app these days?
As training is pretty hectic and time consuming, it’s always rewarding to send a little love out in the world through Instagram.
And finally…go-to resto in Vancouver?
My fiancé and I’s favorite spot in Vancouver is Sushi Itoga (on Robson near Denman). Its fresh, sustainable & inexpensive! We commute 3k and although that doesn’t sound like a lot, within that 3k radius there are 30 other sushi spots that are closer.
