BrainStation Summer Academy

Meet Canada’s largest youth coding program. 100 students. 4 weeks. Full scholarships.

BrainStation is launching a one-of-a-kind youth coding program this August. Across Canada, students from Vancouver, Waterloo and Toronto will learn to plan, test, build, and launch their very own webpage for a social cause that matters to them. National Sponsors—Konrad Group, AOL Canada, and Deloitte Digital are investing in the education of over 100 Canadian youth by offering full scholarships to all of the participants selected to be a part of the founding cohort.

Coding is a skill that is being more and more sought after by schools and employers. It is a huge asset for any individual’s personal and professional development. The problem solving techniques and creativity gained from coding are invaluable and applicable to countless situations.

With the inspiration to create coders for positive change, the curriculum has been developed to teach students how to build websites for social causes they are passionate about, from start to finish. Students will also learn business planning, hear from industry speakers, and have opportunities to network with their peers. BrainStation aspires to empower the 100 bright and dedicated students across three cities to contribute meaningful impacts for what truly matters to them.

Applications are open to all students currently enrolled in high school. Students are asked to get creative and tell us what gets them excited about this opportunity. Applications will close on June 21, 2015.

Do Students Need Previous Coding Experience?

This program was created specifically for those with little to no coding experience. We take students through the foundations of web development, all the way to publishing their very first custom webpage online.

How are students selected for the program?

The program is open to students between the ages of 13-18 years of age. Students can apply online, where they answer a few questions regarding their perceptions on Technology, Community, and Leadership. The BrainStation Academy team reviews each applicant and selects students based on fit for the program.

Does the program offer any accreditation or certificate upon completion of a course?

We do not offer any accreditation or certificate. We are focused on helping students achieve a mastery of skills they need to learn. We will provide a letter of acceptance and completion at your request if your employer requires it.

Who are the instructors at BrainStation?

All of the teachers at BrainStation are experts in their respective disciplines and bring extensive real world experience into the classroom. Simply put, you are learning from the best and brightest. Most importantly, everyone at BrainStation is extremely passionate about education and empowering our students.

When and where will the program take place?

Classes begin on August 1, 2015 and run every Saturday and Sunday between 10am-2pm until August 29, 2015 (4 weeks). BrainStation Summer Academy classes will operate in Toronto (445 King Street West), Vancouver (1110 Hamilton Street) and Waterloo (151 Charles Street West).
