Why did you take the SEO Bootcamp?
I need to know more about everything digital, and this seemed like a good place to start. I get social, but the web is a bit more of a challenge. Now that I’m working more in a freelance capacity, I need to to be even more visible online, I need people to be able to find me for the right reasons.
How did you hear about the program?
Andrea, our studio manager at Misfitstudio (the Pilates studio I teach at) had taken the course a little while back and found it very helpful, so she recommended it to me. I’d also been at Brainstation Toronto to watch a speaker series, and knew that I wanted to be more involved in the community that was growing there.
What did you learn?
Where do I start?! A lot of things that I didn’t realize before I took the course. We started with Core Principles of SEO and Google Ranking Factors (i.e. how to make Google your friend). We also conducted SEO site audits of our own websites (if we had them), so it was a great opportunity to trouble shoot and see how search engines see us and why – which was very enlightening. We then moved on to Back Link Analysis and Link Building Approach. Trevor, our instructor, was great. He was very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to our questions. He also gave us a lot of info on industry tools so that we can continue to work on our own sites beyond the workshop.
How will you apply this to your everyday life/job?
First and foremost, I’ve learned what I need to change about my own website to make it better and drive traffic there. I now understand how a search engine sees my website, or any other, which was totally enlightening. It’s also just possible that I need a better website – but that’s a conversation for another day. SEO was a great place to start for me in building my digital skills.
How was your experience learning at Brainstation?
Fantastic! Everything from registering to taking the workshop itself was totally convenient. The learning environment was relaxed, but we were armed with all the information that we need. As an instructor, Trevor was very approachable and very knowledgeable. I love that Brainstation’s instructors are all leaders in their field out in the world. They bring real, practical information and techniques to the classroom.
